Breeann Baker

Breeann Baker (she/her) is a descendent of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Kwakwaka’wakw nations. At the age of 20 she graduated from the third cohort of the Squamish Language Immersion certificate program. Throughout her time in the cohort, she discovered her passion to pursue her culture as well as teaching others what she has learned. Breeann started traditional song and dance when she was six years old, and since then she has continued to develop her teachings with the assistance she has gained by learning the language. She now incorporates language in knowledge of traditional song and dance. Through the language program she has discovered her passion for drawing and visual art and uses these to represent different elements of her identity and culture. Each day she strives to strengthen her speaking skills and develop ways to intertwine her culture with day to day living. Breeann is currently working to better her understanding of her traditions and culture through immersed teaching and learning of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim alongside her peers.
